Resident Doctors Suspend 10-Week Strike At UPTH
The Association of Resi
dent Doctors (ARD) at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), has suspended its over two-month old strike.
The resident doctors had embarked on the strike on August 3, citing poor management, non-payment of full salary for doctors, incessant cases of robbery, lack of consumables, amongst others.
The suspension of the strike was announced at a joint press conference by the Chief Medical Director of UPTH, Prof Aaron Ojule, and representatives of ARD.
The Public Relations Officer of ARD at UPTH, Chibuzor Mbanasor, told newsmen that the strike was suspended following an agreement reached after series of meetings between the association and the management of the hospital.
Speaking, Chief Medical Director of UPTH, Prof Aaron Ojule, said all issues in contention with the doctors have been resolved amicably.
Ojule assured the public of uninterrupted quality healthcare services at the hospital, and called for support from all stakeholders to enable the institution provide improved healthcare services to Nigerians.
The Tide reports that following the suspension of the strike, the leadership of ARD has directed all resident doctors at UPTH to resume work immediately.
