Atomic Energy Project To Be Completed, Nov
The N270 million Federal Government Atomic Energy Project sited in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, is expected to be completed in November this year.
So far, 37 per cent of the job has been done while N10 million has been paid for the project being handled by the Atomic Energy Commission.
Chairman, House Committee on Science and Technology, Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade, who disclosed this to The Tide at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa explained that his committee was in the state on an oversight function to see the level of work on the atomic energy project.
When completed, the project, according to Hon. Akinlade, would rank Nigeria one of the best in atomic energy in the whole world, pointing out that, the committee was satisfied with the quality and pace of the job.
“We are satisfied with the job which started last November and the pace is for one year”, he stressed, saying that the country stands to gain a lot from it when completed.
The House Committee chairman observed that as a developing nation, “we are backward in science and technology and we need to go into research to improve our position”.
He underscored the need for the federal government to pay more attention to research funding and human capacity building if the country must grow scientifically and technologically.
As he put it, science and technology cover all the aspects of our economy and stressed the need for the country to develop its infrastructure such as roads, power, health and education.
