Air Force Destroys More Illegal Barges In Rivers
In continuation of the
battle by the military to checkmate militancy, illegal bunkering and oil theft in the Niger Delta, the Nigerian Air Force, has bombed two large floating barges loaded with stolen crude in Rivers State.
Confirming the bombing in Abuja, Director of Air Force Public Relations, Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa said, “the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has destroyed two additional illegal barges laden with stolen petroleum products in the Niger Delta.
“The barges were set ablaze by NAF helicopter around Opu-Bille, Yellow Island and Bille area of Rivers State”
Famuyiwa said that the NAF, in the past two weeks, has destroyed a number of illegal refineries and oil barges in River State.
According to him, “The latest operations, like the previous ones, are clear pointers to the fact that it is no longer profitable to steal crude oil in Nigeria.
“It is also increasingly difficult for anybody or group of persons to divert our commonwealth for selfish interest”, he added.
“The NAF will, therefore, continue its operations to rid the creeks of criminal elements to make the region safe for genuine economic activities”, he added.
