School Proprietors Flay Multiple Taxation …As Union Decries Harassment Of Members

Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Rivers State Chapter has decried the multiple taxations and harassment of its members as they appealed to the Rivers State Government to check the constant harassment and multiple taxations of its members.
The association made the appeal on Friday while briefing some members of the press as NAPPS begins its 2016 week in the state.
State President, Chief Victor A.D. Green, who made the appeal, condemned the continuous harassment and unlawful taxes of private schools in Rivers State, stressing that the trend is worrisome.
Green noted that the trend could be reversed or repositioned positively without fight, but through harmonization of the entire taxes to be paid by private schools.
The NAPPS President reminded the state government that NAPPS plays a unique and complimentary role in the educational development of the nation, adding that good education is a valuable tool for national and global advancement.
According to him, Education is the master key that is capable of causing the needed change in our society and also can restore dignity and security in the country’’.
He called on the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike to intervene on the issue and investigate the harassment of its members and multiple taxations by some government agencies, assuring that its members are ready to support the government with payment of lawful taxes if harmonized.
Green, however, commended the state government, the Rivers State House of Assembly and the commissioner for Education, Prof. Kaniye Ebuku for working towards the development of education in the state.
He further noted the cordial relationship existing between them and the association and appealed to the government to come to their aid and help in providing solutions to the challenges confronting the Association. The week long activities started last Friday and ends on Wednesday.
