Jetty Reconstruction Delights Stakeholders
Some stakeholders in the Marine transport sector in Rivers State have expressed delight over the flag-off of the reconstruction of Bonny jetty at the Bille, Bonny, Nembe Waterfront in Port Harcourt by the Rivers State Government, Wednesday.
Speaking with our correspondent soon after the ceremony, some of the stakeholders said the project is a welcome development as it would alleviate the difficulties faced by the people using the Jetty to travel to their various riverine communities, boost economic activities, bring development and generate revenue to the government, describing it as first of its kind for decades in the area.
The Beach Master, Bonny Marine Transport Association, Comrade Henry Jumbo thanked the Governor of Rivers State Chief Nyesom Wike, for standing on his words during his campaign of providing a landing jetty for the people of Bonny, stressing that today it has come to pass as he flagged-off the project with an assurance of completing it within seven months with specification.
Jumbo called on all to work hand in glove with the construction company to ensure the timely completion of the project for the users to and from Bonny, Billie and Nembe communities.
Also, the Chairman, Maritime Workers union of Nigeria (MWUN), Nembe Waterfont Chapter, Comrade David Teke, said he was so excited with governor Wike for flagging off the reconstruction of the long, abandoned jetty, saying the project, when completed, will positively affect the living condition of some riverine communities in Rivers and Bayelsa States.
Teke, who described the project as a welcome development, opined that the Riverine people have seen the vision and passion of the governor toward their welfare and prayed God to continue to give him wisdom and courage to take the state to an enviable height.
Another stakeholder, Ibinabo Hart, also expressed delight that the ground breaking of the Bille, Bonny, Nembe Jetty project is a great relief and succour to riverine communities using the Jetty and lauded the bold step taking by the Governor
