PH Polytechnic ’ll Be Construction Site, Soon – Maeba
The Port Harcourt Poly
technic, Rumuala will soon be a site for construction activities.
Chairman, Governing Council of the institution, Senator Lee Maeba, gave this hint shortly after the commissioning of the Gate House and Signage, recently.
Senator Maeba stated that since the elevation of the Rivers State College of Arts and Science to a polytechnic status, management of the institution had been mandated to carryout a NEEDS assessment of the school.
“Having achieved that, our next objective was to turn this polytechnic to a viable polytechnic between the time the name was changed and now.
As a council, we have been working on NEEDS assessment of the school, we have finished it and we will take it to the Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike.
He assured that based on the report of the needs assessment, the Governor is likely to ensure the commencement of projects aimed at developing the school to suit its present status.
Such projects, he said, include construction of hostels, laboratories and provision of other necessary facilities for the school.
“We plan to provide hostels, more study-based classrooms and make available first class laboratories.
“This is because this is a science school, we want to make the science centre such that students who graduate from the Niger Delta Science School should be able to have their Diploma in a well organized environment.
According to him, this is in accordance with the state Governor’s vision of developing the educational standard of the state.
On his part, the Rector of the School, Dr Samuel Kalagbor notoed that the commissioning of the new gate which now bears the current name of the school marks” a new beginning” for the Polytechnic.
He therefore thanked the state Governor for not only upgrading the school, but also ensuring that necessary facilities are put in place.
