APBN Inaugurates Rivers Chapter Exco
Twenty-four years after its
formation and presence in some states of Nigeria, the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), has formally inaugurated its pioneer elected executive body for the Rivers State chapter.
APBN’s National President, Foluso Fasoto, led a team of the national executive to inaugurate an eight-member Rivers State chapter executive Friday in Port Harcourt.
Fasoto noted that it was a thing of joy that Rivers State has become the 11th state in Nigeria to have the presence of the body and its exco officially inaugurated.
He stated that APBN is the umbrella body of government-recognised professional association in Nigeria set up to speak with one voice on behalf of its member-bodies while at the same time give professional advice to government on matters affecting the professionals and their practices.
According to him, the complexities of today’s human activities have made it imperative for various professional bodies to speak with one voice in making inputs to government.
“When we come together in this way, we can collate our views and be in a position to present to the government a well-articulated opinion on economic, social and national issues and propose policies and strategies to enable government attain its full potentials and greatness”, he said.
The National President charged members of the Rivers State branch to be elements of change as to change things positively in the state.
He further urged the eight-member executive to promote the highest ethical standards and professionalism in the state while under-scoring the importance of integrity in their operations.
“I expect the new chapter inaugurated today to co-ordinate and showcase their specialities as professionals to the state and also at the local authority level”, he said stressing that APBN embarked on state chapter formations to increase its visibility and impact the socio-economic development process in Nigeria.
Dr Ezekiel Williams emerged chairman of the Rivers State chapter while Dr Boniface Woko and Mr. Augustine Ihaza are first and second vice chairman, respectively.
Others were Joe Thomas Secretary General, Engr Emmanuel Idoniboye Financial Secretary, Barr Erasmus Dike organizing secretary, Dr. Alasia Public Relations Officer while Ms Onene Osila Obele-Oshoko is Ex-officio member.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
