Motorists, Others Lament Mile One Flood
The incessant flood which
occurs on Mile One axis of Ikwerre Road, Port Harcourt has become a source of concern to drivers and traders in the area.
The drivers and traders stated this in separate interviews with The Tide in Port Harcourt yesterday.
A bus driver, Chigozie John who plys Mile One – Mile Three Route said each time it rains, the entire axis beginning from Mile One Police Station to First Bank becomes heavily flooded and that it takes several hours to drain off.
According to him, this development makes the area impessable for many vehicles except few others, forcing many to divert.
Another bus driver Mr Cosmos Eze said the flood has caused a lot of damage on vehicles and appealed to Rivers State Government to address the problem in the interest of Rivers State people even though it is a Federal Road.
Also speaking with a trader, Mrs. Hope Bassey, said that the flood had displaced them from their various sales point, causing most traders within the area to sell on the median.
Another trader, Mr Abraham Chris commended the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for his effort in improving road infrastructure and appealed to him to extend such gesture on the worrisome axis noting that the development was becoming a big embarrassment.
