‘Jega’s Appointment’ ll Ensure Credible Polls’
It has been observed that the appointment of Professor Attahiru Jega as the chief electoral umpire of the country will usher in a more credible electoral process.
Consequently, Nigerians have been urged to ensure that the right thing is done during the 2011 general elections.
Speaking to The Weekend Tide at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, a project consultant, Architect Tam Jamabo urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to come up with new measures that would correct its past mistakes.
INEC, he said should put its house in order and come out with policies and programmes that would take the country to another level politically, pointing out that from the track record of Professor Jega, “he is a good choice”.
Calling on Nigerians to give the new INEC boss a chance, Jamabo reminded him that he owed the country a duty to ensure a credible election saying a new voters’ register is imperative.
He urged President Goodluck Jonathan to run for the 2011 presidential polls as he has the constitutional right to do so, noting that zoning has no place in the 1999 Constitution.
Jamabo who is also a member of Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2010 Garden City Sport Festival noted that Nigeria now has a renewed hope in the performance of the Super Eagles at the on-going FIFA World Cup judging by the team’s preparation.
He urged Nigerians to support the Super Eagles, pointing out that they would make a keen contest in the tournament.
