Poverty: Ministry Seeks Partnership With RSSDA
The Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture has sort for closer collaboration with the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) to tackle poverty in the state.
The Commissioner, Mr. Emmanuel Chinda said this during a meeting with some officials of the agency in his office in Port Harcourt.
Mr. Chinda also commended the agency for its interventionist programme which, he said, has provided opportunities for rural farmers in the state to boost their production.
According to him, the effective implementation of the agency’s Songhai programme will not only boost food production, in the state, but will also stimulate its rapid industrialisation, thereby leading to massive employment opportunities for Rivers people.
The commissioner stressed the need for the agency to sustain its programme, assuring of the ministry’s support.
The Executive Director of the RSSDA, Mr. Noble Pepple, said the Soaghai Rivers project is one of the several interventionist programmes of the agency to eradicate poverty in the state.
Mr. Pepple stressed the need for partnership with the ministry to boost the production of Allanbioka tree crop in the state, pointing out that available information has indicated that the crop, which is indigenous to the state, can boost the income of farmers involve in its production.
He thanked the commissioner for the meeting and called for it to be sustained.
