NSF: Cycling Association Restates Readiness To Excel
The Rivers State
Cycling Association has reiterated its commitment to win gold medals for the state at the forthcoming 19th National Sports Festival (NSF) tagged “Paradise Games” scheduled to hold in Calabar, Cross River State.
Head Coach of the body, Emmanuel Onasanya disclosed this yesterday in an interview with Tidesports in Port Harcourt.
According to him, the association is doing all it takes to ensure that it does not miss the set target for the National Sports Fiesta billed for November, this year.
“We have done our best, leaving no stone unturned. The body recently participated in the 25th edition of “Tour DU Togo”, and the team was able to bag four trophies, this shows that their (Cyclists) standards have improved drastically from what it used to be”, Onasanya said.
The trophies, however, were won in the stages two, three, four and six of the tour respectively.
He explained that the team also takes part in the monthly cycling competition, christened ‘Niger Delta Cycling Championship” held every last Saturday in the state.
“The whole idea is to fortify and help keep the cyclists fit ahead of any future state, national and international competitions”, he noted.
Meanwhile, the monthly cycling comes up this weekend with cyclists from Lagos State and states within the Niger Delta region, at the regular start-off point at Odi Street, behind the Braithwaitte Memorial Hospital, (BMH), Port Harcourt.
It would be recalled that the association won a trophy at the 21st edition of the “our Du Togo”, representing the country at the Championship.
