CPA: RVHA Receives Facelift
As the 40th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, African Regional Conference gathers momentum in Port Harcourt, the multi-million naira ultra-modern Rivers State House of Assembly building complex has received a facelift.
A visit to the complex showed that it has been adorned with colourful flags representing the 16 member commonwealth countries, flying high mast at the entrance leading to the conference venue.
For a first time visitor, to the House of Assembly, the waiting lounge of the Assembly has been turned into tourism attraction, as cultural gallery showcasing the tourism potential of Rivers State were displayed in grand style by the organising committee.
Aside, the information centre for the conference is a behive of activities, as conference delegates were seen collecting their materials and registering their attendance at the conference.
The main bowl of the magnificent auditorium is not left out, as the traditional attire of the rich culture of the Rivers people were displayed on each floor.
Speaking to newsmen shortly on arrival, the Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Bello Adejane commended the State House of Assembly for the level of preparedness.
He said that what he saw in the Assembly confirmed that Rivers State is endowed with treasures and tourism potentials.
Hon Onari Brown a member representing Akuku-Toru State Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly explained that the hosting of the conference has a multiplier benefit.
Outstanding among the benefits he noted, was the showcasing of the state’s tourism potential to investors.
Aside from this, he said, the hosting of the conference would once again send signals to the world that the state is investment friendly and peaceful.
An information official at the conference told The Tide Assembly Correspondent that over 1,000 delegates have so far registered for the conference.
The conference which started on Monday 13 July will end on Thursday July 23 with an Annual General Meet and farewell dinner/dance to be hosted by the speaker and president of CPA at the assembly ground.
