RSBOPP Reads Riot Act To MDAs
The Rivers State Bureau on
Public Procurement (RSOBPP) has threatened to sanction Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) which violate the state procurement law on the awards of contracts.
The Acting Director-General of the Agency, Mr Igonibo Thompson who stated this at a seminar on public procurement for staff of the Ministry of Housing in Port Harcourt said it would not be business as usual for procurement entities in the state.
The Acting Director-General who was represented by the public affairs manager of the agency, Miss Soye Opuiyo said that the seminar was being organised for ministries, departments and agencies in the state to enlighten them on the existence of the law and the consequences of its violations.
Earlier, while declaring the seminar open the Rivers State Commissioner for Housing, Barr. Emma Okah commended the Bureau for the seminar which he said would go along way to correct the misinformation regarding the law.
Barrister Okah who said that attitudinal change was needed to curb corruption in Nigeria urged those who do government business in the country to be above board in the discharge of their duties.
The commissioner used the occasion to assure the agency that the Ministry of Housing would discharge its duties in line with the laws guiding the operations of government.
In his lecture entitled, “Synopsis of the Procurement Law” the Head, Legal Unit, Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement, Barr. Tom George said that the law was designed to eliminate wastages and to ensure cost effectiveness on contracts awards.
He also said that the agency had put in place mechanism to regulate and guide its implementations.
