Peace Building: RSG Wants Firms To Partner Communities
The Rivers State
Government has charged companies operating in various communities of the state to partner with their host communities in order to ensure peace and development.
Rivers State Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Dr. John Bazia, gave the charge recently during a peace meetingbetween representatives of Ke Community in Degema Local Government Area and New GOSS EP in his office.
While urging corporate bodies to improve on their existing relationship with their hosts, the Commissioner noted that such improved relationship would better the lot of all stakeholders and create the enabling environment for business to flourish.
“Confrontation does not solve any problem”, the Commissioner said, noting that host communities should strive at all times to make Rivers State an investors haven by making deliberate effort to achieve peaceful co-existence.
In his remarks, the spokesman of Ke Community, Dr. Sokari Ibifuro, said the position of Ke Community was to feel the pulse of the company, adding that New GOSS EP should see the meeting as an opportunity to cement the relationship between both parties.
“Ke people naturally are peaceful by nature. We can assure you that as a community, we shall give all necessary support to the company to ensure the kind of relationship required to better our community, the company and state at large”, he said.
Also speaking, the leader of the New GOSS EP delegation, Victor Sodje pledged to maintain the cordial relationship with Ke Community and called for the adoption of an MoU. for a peaceful business climate.
He assured that the company would do everything possible to enhance peaceful and harmonious relationship with the host community.
