e-Banking: FG Plans NIPOST Bank

The Federal Government is
considering to establish NIPOST Bank to enable it transact e-banking and earn more money for the service.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu in Ibadan, Oyo State, recently.
Shittu said the Nigerian postal Services (NIPOST) buildings in several locations in Nigeria that are underutilised would be activated as banks for optimum use to raise money.
He opined that when converted to banks, they would help in money transfer between rural and urban centres, adding that they could serve as cash points for people living in the rural communities where banks are not existing for now.
“By doing so, we will improve on the efficiency of the agency and solve cash receipt and transfer technology among people living in those communities,” the Minster said.
According to him, many NIPOST buildings and lands are laying waste and hinted that plans are in the offing to build offices and shopping malls on public, private partnership.
He reiterated that such would bring more money to NIPOST and government, adding that NIPOST will by this arrangement, be a 21st Century Post Agency that would compete favourably with other companies like banks.
He said that for effective take-off, pans are on to acquire helicopters to ensure quick and efficient services.
