Illegal Motorparks: Transporter Lauds RSG’s Taskforce

The recent inauguration of a taskforce on illegal Motor Parks in Port Harcourt and its environs by the Rivers State Ministry of Urban Development and Planning has been described as a step in the right direction and timely.
A Port Harcourt based transporter, Mr. Onigbenga Taiwo who made the assertion in a chat with The Tide in Port Harcourt yesterday said the action was commendable as it would help checkmate unnecessary traffic bottlenecks on the roads.
Taiwo noted that the inauguration was long over-due because of the menace these illegal motor parks cause to motorists and other road users in the state.
He expressed dismay that the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) who were supposed to check these illegal motor parks are now beneficiaries, thereby compounding the ugly situations.
The transporter said if the members of the taskforce were not going to compromise with the operators of these illegal parks, the government would achieve its set objective, and enjoined them to live up to expectation.
According to him, all necessary measures should be put in place in order to achieve result, and commended the government for the bold step taken to allow free flow of traffic on the roads.
He lamented that most of these illegal motor parks were operated by touts who cause nuisance to motorists, commuters and other road users, therefore any action taken now would go a long way to sanitise the state and Port Harcourt in particular so as to attract investors to the state.
