Urban Guards, Not TIMARIV —Commissioner
The new Urban
Guards Inuagurated recently by the Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning is not the same as the defunct Rivers State Traffic Management (TIMARIV).
The Commissioner For Urban Development and Physical Planning, Hon.Chinyere Igwe, who stated this on Friday said the Urban Guards were instituted to control illegal motor parks, illegal structures, illegal trading, illegal buildings and motor parks, adding that it was inaugurated inconsonance with the Urban Control Law .
He appealed to the public to stop harassing the guards but rather should comply and do the right thing.
The commissioner noted that if effort is not in made to control the genetic and inherent nature of the city it will continue to lose its status as the ‘Garden City’.
The commissioner also enjoined women to use their motherly approach to stop all forms of illegal street trading and illegal motor parks in Port Harcourt city and its environs stressing, “people should appreciate what Governor Nyesom Wike is doing to bring Port Harcourt City back to its aesthetic position in areas of urban renewal and physical planning”.
