School Head Lauds The Tide For Blazing The Trail
The management of the Riv
ers State Newspaper Corporation has been commended for consistently remaining on the newsstands, maintaining high standard and blazing the trail in newspaper publishing since inception in December, 1971.
The Head of Ash Merlyn International School, in Port Harcourt, Mrs Ifeanyichukwu Okereke, stated this during the school’s excursion to the newspaper establishment, last Thursday.
According to her: “The Tide is one of the Nigerian dailies that have remained consistently on the newsstand with high quality content, and whose news coverage has been more inclined towards promoting and defending the interest of the people of Rivers State.”
Okereke who was represented by Mrs Chidinma Sampson stated that “the rich content speaks volume as its passion and dedication has made The Tide very outstanding as the most respected government-owned newspaper in Nigeria.”
She added that the newspaper was widely accepted by the people of Rivers State even as it has struggled towards maintaining its mandate of protecting the interest of the people and government of the state, despite all odds that have forced virtually all other government-owned newspapers across the country to shut down or maintain skeletal services over the years.
The school head hinted that having considered the resilience shown by the newspaper, the school management decided to use the newspaper as a model to encourage the young ones, especially those aspiring to become future professional journalists, among others, to actualize their dreams.
She said: “We are a twenty-first century Primary Education Institution poised to teach, educate, inspire and mentor the Nigerian children who would assume the leadership of Nigeria and the world in future, not only in the classrooms, but also through facility tours and excursions that would expose them to experience the practical aspect of their dream professions.”
The Training and Research Editor, Mr Amieyeofori Ibim while taking the pupils, school head and teachers round the facilities, hinted that the corporation, not only produced newspapers, but was also involved in the commercial printing and production of exercise books of all sizes, book binding, burial programmes, calendars, jotters, dairies, leaflets, stickers and handbills, among others, and called for the patronage of the corporation’s range of products and services.
The Editor/Director, who was represented by Mrs Susan Serekara-Nwikhana, added that The Tide was the most respected source of news.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
