Alcohol Sales Boom At Motor Parks In PH
Despite several warnings
and raids, sale of alcohol and other hard drugs is now on the increase at most Motor Parks in Port Harcourt.
The Tide Correspondent who visited some of the Motor Parks observed that the business is back in full force and without any form of caution.
It was observed that illicit gins of different brands were displayed conspicuously to attract customers, especially drivers for patronage.
Our correspondent also observed that the large patronage could be as a result of the rainy season that has just set-in, because some drivers have formed the habit of taking alcohol before embarking on any journey as a result of the weather condition.
The Tide Correspondent also reported that it is not only alcohol sale that is on the increase at Motor Parks in the state, but hard drugs and cigarettes, which were sometimes banned.
It would be recalled that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rivers State Command, had banned the sale of alcohol and other drugs at Motor Parks, but it was further observed that there was no longer enforcement soon after the ban, hence the resumption of the illicit business at the Motor Parks in the state.
When contacted on phone, the chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Rumuokoro Park, Chief Acho Amadi, said there is no sale of alcohol in his Park as all motorists had been cautioned and warned against drunk-driving as anyone found would face disciplinary action or be sanctioned from operating in the park.
