Tam-George Recommits To Media Houses’ Growth
The Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications says it is working with the managements of the various state-owned media houses with a view to repositioning them for increased productivity.
The Commissioner, Dr. Austin Tam-George, who said this during the 35th year anniversary of Radio Rivers 99.1FM in Port Harcourt, said that his office was aware of the challenges facing the media houses and was doing everything to address them.
Tam-George, who was represented by the Director, Public Enlightenment in the Ministry, Mr. Paulinus Nsirim, however, charged the staff of the broadcast outfit to be dedicated and committed to duty, adding that the policies of the present administration require the support of all for effective implementation.
He also called on staff of the station to continue to give their support to the present management led by Mr. Sampson Fiberesima to sustain the gains made within the past one year.
According to him, Radio Rivers has not only carved a niche for itself as the voice of experience, but weathered the storm to become the leading broadcast station in Nigeria.
The Commissioner urged the situation to be sustained.
In his welcome address, the General Manager of the Corporation, Mr. Sampson Fiberesima, said that the celebration was to salute the vision of the founding fathers of the station as well as extol the legacies of its past leaders.
Fiberesima said that Radio Rivers has not only become the envy of other stations, East of the Niger, but serves as a training ground for upcoming FM stations across the country.
The general manager, however, listed the challenges facing the station to include, the non-installation of digital transmission equipment already bought for the station, and appealed to the government for assistance in this regard.
Fiberesima also said that the station will be ready to partner with the private sector to ensure quality services to the people.
