The Rivers State
Government has issued a warning to trespassers on government property.
The state commissioner for Housing, Mr. Emma Okah, gave this warning during his inspection visit to the proposed site for Government Residential Area (GRA), Phase 12, at Eneka.
He warned the public to desist from buying land from vendors, speculators and developers who fraudulently selL government acquired land.
He condemned the rate at which trespassers construct houses without authorization or permit on the Eneka property saying, “those buying, selling or developing lands belonging to the Rivers State Government should stay action or do so at their own risk,” and assured that those houses would be demolished soon.
Okah stated that several warnings had been made in the past, stressing that buyers and developers failed to heed the repeated warnings by government to stay away from such land.
The Housing Commissioner stated that the demolition notice became necessary to notify all illegal occupants of the Eneka land that government was set to carry out development plans on that land.
According to him, “no effort would be spared to destroy all houses built on the Eneka land to enable the ministry carry out its development plans as such persons, together with their collaborators, face the chances of imprisonment for criminal trespass.”
He also warned all illegal occupants of government houses at the Iriebe Satellite Town to vacate within seven days or face being forcefully evicted.
Okah advised the public to clarify the status of any land they intend to purchase through the ministry or Office of the Surveyor General of the state, saying it was imperative to do so to avoid being duped.
