RVHA Clears Rivers’ Saved Funds’ Care Body
The Rivers State House of Assembly, yesterday confirmed nominees for the state Reserved Trust Fund Management sent to it by the state governor, RT Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for consideration.
Those confirmed by the House include the state Governor, Rt Hon Chibuuike Rotimi Amaechi, (chairman) his deputy, Engr Tele Ikuru,(member), Ken Chikere, (Member), Ngozi Abu,( member).
Others members are George Feyi, Abiye Amachree, Bobmanuel A. and Ernest Ekwe
The nominees were confirmed through unanimous votes by the House.
The Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Tonye Harry, who presided over the session said the state governor forwarded the nominees in accordance with part 3 section I of the law.
Hon Harry explained that the referenced section of the law mandated the governor to submit to the state House of Assembly eight members investment committee that would manage the affairs of the fund.
He stated that the nominees could not be screened by the House as some of them (nominees) are serving commissioners who had already been screened before by the House, adding that the House rules approved that such persons should only be confirmed at the floor of the House.
Meanwhile, the state House of assembly has adjourned sitting for six weeks.
The Speaker who announced the vacation during yesterday’s sitting said it was to mark the end of the third session of the House which terminated on June 1.
Hon Harry stated that the six weeks recess would end on July 12.
Earlier in an interactive session with members of the press corp, the acting chairman of the House Committee on Information and Training, Hon Onari Brown passed over eleven bills into law during the period.
The lawmakers explained that most of the bills passed into law had been asserted to by the state governor, adding that they are laws that would accelerate the social and economic development of the state.
