The Rivers State
Council of Traditional Rulers says it is imperative for it to establish a modern record keeping system that is IT-compliant in conjunction with a well equipped in-house library.
The Council Chairman, His Royal Majesty Dandeson Douglas Jaja, Jeki V, Amanyanabo of Opobo stated this at the 103rd Quarter general meeting of the council held Tuesday at the council secretariat, in Port Harcourt.
Jaja said such record keeping facility would not only be for the use of members but also for researchers in history of the kingdoms in the state.
According to him, on assumption of office, the present leadership discovered that there were no credible records in the council with which to prepare a worthy paper for presentation at the Rivers State Convention in Atlanta Georgia, USA, last year.
He said: “We had to seek assistance from Professor E.J. Alagoa, Eze Robinson O. Robinson and other sources for materials to write the paper”.
The traditional rulers’ council boss who disclosed that already the council had received encouragement from the academia and interested Rivers citizens with insightful records to enrich such a library solicited for the assistance of the Rivers State Governor, Barr. Nyesom Wike to enable such a project become a reality.
He explained further that with the stoppage of the teaching of history in schools, there was the urgent need to protect the ancient history of the Kingdoms.
