Editors’ Conference Begins ‘morrow
The 6th All-Nigerian Editors’ Conference (ANEC) kicks off in Port Harcourt tomorrow.
A statement by the chairman of the local organizing committee, Mr Ogbana Akwaji said the event is expected to be declared open by Rivers State Governor, Rt Hion Chibuike Amaechi
The interactive session according to the statement, is to be chaired by governors of Rivers , Kano, Imo, Niger, Lagos and Delta States on Friday June 4, while the opening ceremony would be chaired by Maj-Gen I.B.M Haruna (rtd).
Speaker and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, the state Chief Judge and members of the Rivers State Executive Council, including Chief Executives of media establishments and practicing journalists in the state are expected to attend the occasion.
Commenting on the four day event, which ends June 5,2010 in Port Harcourt, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari said in a Silverbird Communication radio programme, that the conference would afford media executives an opportunity to witness the recent development in the state.
She hinted that the editors would conduct a media tour of some projects embarked upon by Rivers State government with a view to getting first hand information to assess the state.
The commissioner called on the people of the state to accord the editors usual hospitality of Rivers people, while assuring them of adequate security and relaxation , as the peace has returned to the state since the inception of the present administration.
