The Rivers State Ministry of Culture and Tourism and its Commerce and Industry Counterpart is set to collaborate with the Forum of South-South Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (FOSSCCHIMA) to host the forth-coming International Trade Fair in Port Harcourt.
This, according to the culture and Tourism Commissioner, Mrs Tonye Briggs Oniyide, is in line with the state Government’s renewed efforts to tackle youth restiveness and unemployment in the South-South Zone of the country.
Speaking during a meeting in her office in Port Harcourt, Mrs Oniyide gave assurance on the ability of her ministry and that of commerce and industry to organise a unique international trade fair.
She stated that part of what would make this year’s edition unique was the display of a protector slide at the trade fair that would detail the achievements of Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration, which is the first of its kind”.
Earlier in his remark, the president of (FOSSCCIMA), Prince Gillis-Harry stated that the 2016 International Trade Fair “ is an avenue to bring about lasting positive change in the economy of the region and also serve as a platform for youths to be actively engaged in meaningful ventures”.
According to him, “new products, existing products and hitherto unknown businesses that would drive and grow the economy of the six (South-South) states would be introduced through the fair”.
He further disclosed that towards the successful hosting of the fair, loans will be given to women to carry out business activities within the trade fair ground.
Also, a talent hunt programme for the teeming youths in the region will be organised to fully engage youths with entrepreneurship skills.
A total of 100,000 youths, he said, were expected to be attracted to the trade fair to be engaged in jobs as the opportunity presents itself.
Meanwhile, the concerned commissioners have taken April 19-21, 2016 as provisional date for the trade fair.
