Workers’ Rift: TUC Writes Labour Ministry

Greater Power of God Fire Mission International on Imgbi Road Amarata was destroyed by fire in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, recently.
The Trade Union Con
gress (TUC), of Nigeria Rivers State Council, has appealed to the Ministry of Labour and Employment to wade into the crisis between Deawoo Nigeria Limited and the National Association of Plant Operators (NAPO).
The Trade Union Congress (TUC) in a letter signed by the state vice chairman, Comrade Clement Onyesom, dated 23rd, March, 2016 and addressed to the zonal director, South-South zone, federal ministry of labour and employment, the union said the call became necessary in order to avert a looming industrial crisis in the area.
According to the TUC, the union rejects in totality denial of rights of its members as well as an unlawful disengagement of members of National Association of Plant Operators by the Deawoo Nigeria Limited with any compensation.
“Consequently, we are of the opinion that the ministry, as a matter of urgency should use her good office to summon all parties affected in this industrial dispute for an amicable dialogue to avert impending industrial crisis in the very soonest possible time if nothing is done to address the dispute,” the union said in the letter.
The union also requested the ministry to include the managements of Deawoo Nigerian limited, Ndorama fertiliser Plant Company, NAPO and the representatives of plant operators, the National Union of Civil Engineering Construction, Furniture and Wood Workers (NUCECFWW) and the state TUC as those to be united for the meeting.
