MOSOP To Host African Minorities Secretariat
The Movement for the
Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP has won the right to host African Secretariat of the International Indigenous Peoples Movement for Self Determination and Liberation (IPMSDL).
IPMSDL is an international movement found in different parts of the world defending the rights of indigenous people against oppression and repression by the state and its instrumentalities.
The National Coordinator of the Ogoni Solidarity Forum, Celestine Akpobari, in an interview in Port Harcourt, said MOSOP won the right at the on-going retreat of the organization in Nairobi, Kenya.
Akpobari also said with the new status MOSOP will drive all activities of the organization in Africa.
He further said MOSOP as the host of the African Secretariat of the International Indigenous Peoples Movement for Self Determination and Liberation will ensure that the issue of clean-up of Ogoni land receives more international supports
The community rights activist, said some of the representatives of MOSOP at the conference going on at Mother Theresa Retreat Center, Nairobi, Kenya include MOSOP presidents, Legborsi Pyagbara and NYCOP boss, Dr. Youny Nkpa.
Meanwhile, more groups in Rivers State are calling for attention of the Federal Government for the clean-up of other oil impacted communities in the state.
The latest is coming from the Ndoki Congress in Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The Secretary General of the group, Okezie Johnson, said that Ndoki land has suffered more environmental degradation due to continues oil exploration activities by oil multinationals in the area.
Johnson also called on the Federal Government to employ holistic approach and deal fairly with all oil impacted communities in the clean-up of the Niger Delta region.
