No fewer than 15 pupils of
a private school at Ahoada narrowly escaped death when the school bus of Dominion Courage Basic Academy was razed by fire while the school bus was on school run.
Through, no life was lost, but the timely intervention of motorcyclists while the school bus was on fire saved a black Monday for the respective families.
An eyewitness who simply gave his name as Job told The Tide that the fire incident which caused pandemonium forced traders and Okada operators to hurriedly abandone their business to save lives of the innocent pupils.
According to job, the driver of the school had packed by the market side to buy loaf of bread, but the engine of the bus could not start.
Suspecting fault in the engine, the eyewitness said the driver fiddled the engine which resulted in the spread of fuel under the bus.
Another attempt by the driver to start the engine for the last time reportedly sparked off fire that overwhelmed the entire bus.
The Tide learnt that the school bus driver took to his heels as he noticed the seeming danger, but the danger was averted when Okada operators and other well-meaning individuals summoned the courage to save the lives of the pupils in the flaming bus.
The charred bus with registration number XE 622JJT has since been moved to the premises of Ahoada police station, while police sources said investigation has commenced into the circumstance leading to the fire incident.
