Gunmen Kill LG Chairman’s Aide
A man identified as an aide to the Asari-Toru Caretaker Committee Chairman, Soboma Jackrich, was in the early hours of yesterday killed in Buguma, the headquarters of the LGA.
The Tide gathered that the victim, simply known as Godknows, was said to have been shot dead inside his residence by a group of gunmen, who stormed the area around 1am.
Investigations show that Godknows, also known as Babadiba, was said to have been shot several times by his assailants, leaving him with no chance of survival.
Speaking in an interview with The Tide, yesterday, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Asari-Toru LGA, Soboma Jackrich, described the victim as an easy-going fellow, and condemned, in strong terms, his murder by unknown gunmen.
Jackrich, who spoke through his lawyer, Mr. Tubotamuno Dick, disclosed that Godknows was appointed as his special assistant on business development, adding that the victim was not a politician.
The council chairman explained that the gunmen stormed Buguma, the headquarters of Asari-Toru, and began shooting sporadically between 1am and 2am.
Jackrich recalled that the victim was recently threatened by a group of people, who accused him of being an informant to security operatives on the criminal activities in the area.
Godknows, who was also selling drinks in retail and wholesale in Buguma, was said to have been found dead at daybreak, a development that caused anxiety within the area.
“He was appointed the special assistant to the council chairman on business development. He is always at home . He was recently threatened by some persons, who said he was giving information to security operatives,” Jackrich added.
The local government caretaker committee chairman, however, revealed that the police had been informed about the killing of Godknows, adding that a group of security operatives came to Buguma, yesterday morning, and took the victim’s remains to the mortuary.
When contacted, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Muhammad, who confirmed the incident to The Tide yesterday, simply added that, “we are investigating”.
