FG Sinks N5bn On Water Projects In Bayelsa
Over five billion naira has so far been spent on the construction of water projects in various locations in Bayelsa State since the commencement of the present administration. Governor Timipre Sylva made this known in Yenagoa at a joint news briefing with the visiting Minister of Water Resources, Chief Obadiah Ando, after an inspection tour of water projects in the state.
The Minister was in Bayelsa State in continuation of his tour of states to get first hand information on on-going and abandoned water projects, and seek area of collaboration with state governments in the provision of potable water for all.
The team from both the Federal Ministry of Water resources and the Commissioner in charge of the Ministry in the state.
Mr.Kurokegha Francis with the Minister and Governor Timipre Sylva,visited the main water works in Yenagoa,water project in Otuoke and the Oloibiri regional project in Otuabagi, Ogbia local government area.
The General Manager of the state water Board. Mr.Cornelius Ala,was on ground to brief the team on the state of the facilities, most of which require expansion to be able to serve more people.
Mr. Ala, told the team that ground water remained the best source for water as it required minimal cost to clean the iron contents rather than the use of surface water, for which the treatment of various contaminants would not be cost effective.
Briefing newsmen, Governor Sylva, said the five billion naira investments in water projects covered the on-going two regional projects in Otuabagi and Nembe which cost about three billion naira out of the six regional ones and thirteen other water schemes across the state.
“I hear a group saying that we have paid fully for the Oloibiri regional water project, and that it has been abandoned. The cost of that project is N1.8 billion and the job is about seventy per cent completed.
“About N1.4 billion had been paid to the contractor who is also handling the one in Nembe.The contractor is asking for variation again but we said no,” Sylva stated.
According to him,”
“This administration takes the issue of water seriously.Water is life. We didn’t want to do small small project,we had to map the state into six zones with regional schemes out of which the Otuabagi and Nembe had commenced”.
The Governor, who thanked the Minister for the collaboration, said water reticulation within the state was a difficult one and that the government was doing its best to make potable available to the people.
Chief Sylva expressed confidence in the ability of the present administration at the federal level to deliver water to every nooks and cranny of the country.
Also speaking, the Minister of Water Resources, said the Federal Government was committed to carrying out quick impact projects by resurrecting abandoned water projects all over the country.
“ Our administration is not that that will abandone projects, we are resurrecting abandoned projects and carrying on with them to make quick impact on the lives of the people at the rural areas. I am moving from state to state to take stock for now”. Ando said.
Chief Ando, said the Federal Government would reach an agreement with the Bayelsa State government to make the people have access to water and urged the beneficiaries to cultivate the attitude of maintenance of facilities in their area.

Forum Expresses Confidence In APC Candidates’ Performance In Rivers
The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress Christian Leaders Forum has expressed strong confidence in the capacity of All Progressives Congress (All Progressives Congress) candidates in the state to deliver effective governance if elected into office in the coming elections.
The State Coordinator of the forum, Archbishop Lucky Aroh, made this known during a breakfast and thanksgiving meeting held in Port Harcourt, where leaders gathered to pray for the stability of the party and the safety of its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.According to him, the meeting was convened to seek divine intervention for peace, unity, and security among APC candidates across Rivers State.
“Today we are praying for APC stability in Rivers State and the security of our candidates that have been elected to contest the 2027 elections. It is a breakfast meeting,” Aroh said.
He further expressed optimism that the party’s candidates would not disappoint the people if entrusted with leadership responsibilities.
“They will not fail when elected into office. We are here as fathers of the land to let them know, and I must tell you the truth that these are the authentic people that will do well in Rivers State,” he added.
Speaking earlier, the National Chairman of the forum, Professor Olanrewaju Abraham, commended the Rivers State chapter for organizing the programme, noting that the national body of the forum believes strongly in the power of prayer.
He stated that political leadership provides an opportunity to influence society positively, including advancing moral and spiritual values, while expressing confidence that APC candidates at all levels would emerge victorious in the upcoming elections.
Also speaking, the Rivers State Women Leader of the APC, Hon. Darling Amadi, praised the forum for its commitment to prayers for peace, stability, and the protection of party candidates.
Represented by the Deputy Women Leader of the party in the state, she described the initiative as commendable and urged other political and support groups within the party to emulate the gesture in promoting unity and stability.

Fubara Commended For Sustaining Peace In Rivers As Sirawoo Receives Democracy Day Recognition
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Honour Kuru Sirawoo, have been honoured with awards of recognition in connection with the 2026 Democracy Day celebrations held in Port Harcourt.
The awards, which formed part of activities marking Nigeria’s Democracy Day on June 12, were formally presented on Tuesday at the Ministry of Information and Communications in Port Harcourt.
Presenting the awards was Hon. Abdul Hameed Oladipupo Alli, popularly known as “Mr. Nigeria,” Publisher of Asiwaju Trumpet Magazine and Achievers World International Magazine.
Governor Fubara was recognised for his efforts in sustaining peace, stability, and a conducive political atmospherJohn Bibor / Menebe Emmanuel / Fortune Paibie in Rivers State. The organisers noted that his administration has fostered harmony and strengthened civic participation across the state.
