Wike Tasks Christians On Prayers

Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has enjoined Christians to seek the face of God in engendering peace ahead of the National and State Assembly reun elections in the state.
The Governor stated this while speaking at the Rivers State Prayer Summit, organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rivers State Chapter in Port Harcourt.
Represented by his Deputy Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, Governor Wike said his administration would continue to support the Christian Community in the state and solicited their prayerful support to enable his administration deliver the dividends of democracy to Rivers People.
He used the occasion to encourage Rivers people not to be intimidated by the false propaganda of insecurity sponsored by detractors of his Government, assuring that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure their safety during and after the elections.
“The enemy only wants to instill fear in our people , but we should come out en-mass on Saturday and vote to re-elect our candidates without any fear, as our God has not given us the spirit of fear,” he said.
Governor Wike called on Christians to re-double their effort by ensuring that the mandate given to the (PDP) candidates in the previous elections were restored.
Earlier, Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rivers State Chapter, Most Rev. I.C.T Anyanasikike, stressed the importance of prayers in the life of a Christian, adding that the purpose of the prayers summit was to seek God’s intervention in restoration of peace in Rivers State.
High points of the event were prayer for the State Governor and his cabinet as well as praise and worship.
Meanwhile, Rivers State Deputy Governor Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo says the Saturday March 19, Rerun elections in Rivers State is critical to the survival of democracy and a test of integrity for the APC-led Federal Government.
The Deputy Governor in a statement advised the military and security agencies as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to be upright in discharging their duties to drive home the pledge of President Buhari’s inaugural speech that he “belongs to all, and belongs to no body.”
Dr. Banigo urged the people of the State not to be deterred in their collective resolve to defend their votes, stressing that “One with God, is in majority.”
She urged the people to vote only for candidates that would move the state forward and to sustain the current pace of development in the state.
