FG To Harmonise MSME Activities- SMEDAN
The Federal Govern
ment is set to harmonise the activities of ministries, departments and agencies connected with Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), an official said in Abuja.
Director-General, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Mr Bature Masari, told newsmen that the objective was to ensure synergy for effective growth of the sub-sector.
“I have received the report of the coordination committee for the last MSME summit and the report is encapsulated for work plan for coordination of all MSME related MDAs to ensure synergy.
“The report will also ensure collaborations and implementation of MSME related activities in the country to avoid duplication,’’ Masari said.
He said in order to harmonise MSME activities, a platform under the chairmanship of Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, has been set up.
The DG called for the establishment of MSMEs bank to provide dedicated and sustainable funding window for the development of the sub-sector.
He said adequate funding of MSMEs would lead to massive economic growth and job creation in the country.
“These measures will go a long way in checking the problem of lack of access to funds that is hampering the growth and development of the country’s MSMEs sub-sector,’’ he said.
Masari added that a well structured MSMEs sub-sector would contribute significantly to employment generation, wealth creation and development in the country.
He said the current economic hardship faced by the country was caused by declining crude oil price, foreign exchange crisis and significant capital outflow.
“I believe a new impetus must be generated to expand the operational horizon of MSMEs in Nigeria toward achieving this objective,” the official said.

Kenyan Runners Dominate Berlin Marathons
Kenya made it a clean sweep at the Berlin Marathon with Sabastian Sawe winning the men’s race and Rosemary Wanjiru triumphing in the women’s.
Sawe finished in two hours, two minutes and 16 seconds to make it three wins in his first three marathons.
The 30-year-old, who was victorious at this year’s London Marathon, set a sizzling pace as he left the field behind and ran much of the race surrounded only by his pacesetters.
Japan’s Akasaki Akira came second after a powerful latter half of the race, finishing almost four minutes behind Sawe, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele followed in third.
“I did my best and I am happy for this performance,” said Sawe.
“I am so happy for this year. I felt well but you cannot change the weather. Next year will be better.”
Sawe had Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record of 2:00:35 in his sights when he reached halfway in 1:00:12, but faded towards the end.
In the women’s race, Wanjiru sped away from the lead pack after 25 kilometers before finishing in 2:21:05.
Ethiopia’s Dera Dida followed three seconds behind Wanjiru, with Azmera Gebru, also of Ethiopia, coming third in 2:21:29.
Wanjiru’s time was 12 minutes slower than compatriot Ruth Chepng’etich’s world record of 2:09:56, which she set in Chicago in 2024.
