‘Service To humanity, Best Legacy’
Selfless Service to humanity has been described as one of the best legacies to bequeath to ones children and followers alike, if Nigeria must be conducive for all in generations to come.
The Special Assistant on Health and Safety to the chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Rivers State Council, Comrade Charles Chima Igwe stated this during the burial of his mother, Madam Victoria Chidaa Igwe, in Rumuokwurushi, Obio/Akpor.
Speaking during the burial, Comrade Igwe recalled that his late mother’s service to people around her, particularly the needy, has been instrumental to his outlook “in life, especially when it comes to selfless service”.
“All her life was dedicated to service to humanity. She was a good adviser, industrious, hard working, and above all, she had the fear of God”, he said.
Igwe, who is also the Branch Secretary, Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), Eleme Petrochemicals Company Limited (EPCL), continued that part of his late mother’s service to humanity was in her role as a local midwife.
According to him, as at November 2009, when she died at 88 years, she had delivered over a hundred children.
He noted that “if every body can live such a life that could earn them role models, a lot of problems we are having today in our society may not have been.
“Today many people are talking about my mother, not because she gave them money, but because she lived a life they cherish so much, because she touched their lives in different ways”, he said.
