Delta: Community Seeks Power Project Completion
Some residents of
Oghareki in Ethiope West Local Government of Delta have appealed to the state government to complete the abandoned N23.2 billion Independent Power Plant (IPP) project in the area.
They made the appeal in separate interviews with our correspondent at Oghereki recently.
According to them, the completion of the project will provide electricity and create jobs in the area.
Mr Mamuyovbi Edijana said that it was worrisome that the project which was started in 2009 had not been completed till date.
Edijana said that when the project was commenced the people were very happy and hoped that when completed, it would help to boost economic activities in the area.
‘But today, our hope has been shattered because the project which we thought will have been completed by now has been abandoned’’ he said.
He, however, appealed to the state government to do what it could to ensure that the project was completed.
Also, Mr Philip Akpoguma, said government should ensure the completion of the project because it would ensure power supply in the state and attract investors.
According to him, the project, when completed, will benefit the community, the state and the country at large.
Our correspondent reports that the contract for the project was initially awarded at N21.7 billion but reviewed to N23.2 billion in 2010.
The contracting firm, DAV-NOTCH, has been paid N19.8 billion for the project that was expected to be completed in 2003.
