Commissioner Hails Climate Change Programmes
The Commissioner for
Information and Orientation, Mrs. RoseMary Archibong says her Ministry will give maximum support to the programmes and activities of the Ministry of Climate Change and Forestry, to ensure that government objectives of regenerating and protecting the forest and its natural resources are achieved.
Mrs. Archibong who stated this when the Commissioner for Climate Change and Forestry, Dr. Alice Ekwu and her Management team paid her a courtesy visit in her office, Calabar, said the State had a lot to benefit from the programmes..
She commended the State Governor, Senator (Prof.) Ben Ayade’s efforts in expanding the forest by creating the Climate Change Ministry with a Commissioner and two Special Advisers, one of whom is on Biodiversity and the other on Climate Change as well as the forestry.
The Commissioner advised those exploiting the forest for personal gains to discontinue the practice in the interest of the state and declared that the Ministry of Information and Orientation would commence massive tree planting exercise and requested for a plot of land to be allocated to the Ministry in this regard.
Mrs. Archibong assured that her Ministry would give maximum support in the areas of public enlightenment on the activities of the Ministry of Climate Change and forestry to achieve positive results.
Earlier, the Commissioner, Ministry of Climate Change and Forestry, Dr. Alice Ekwu had said the purpose of the visit was to solicit the support of the Ministry of Information and Orientation for public enlightenment on the activities and programmes of Climate Change and Forestry.
Dr. Ekwu said there was need to syergise in order to enhance the development and protection of the State Forest reserves.
According to the Commissioner, the mandate of the Ministry of Climate Change, Special Advisers, the Cross River State Forestry Commission Board and entire staff of the Ministry is a big challenge that needs proper coordination to achieve objectives.
