We ’re Putting A New PDP On Ground -Sheriff

L-R: Special Adviser to Rivers State Governor, Mr Shedrack Akalokwu,Rivers State Commissioner for Finance, Dr Fred Kpakol and state Chairman PDP, Bro Felix Obuah, during the special thanksgiving service to celebrate Wike’s victory at the Supreme Court in Port Harcourt, on Saturday
New National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff says soon the party will witness a turn around in its fortunes.
Alhaji Sheriff gave the assurance while addressing party faithfuls at a Special Thanksgiving and Interdenominational service organised by state chapter of the PDP at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium Elekahia on Saturday to celebrate the Supreme Court judgment that affirmed Governor Nyesom Wike’s election last month.
The new PDP chairman said the current political developments is an opportunity for the party to regain power at the centre in 2019, “ I believe Nigerians will give PDP chance again.”
The Peoples Democratic Party’s National Chairman, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, yesterday revealed that he has started reaching out to those who defected from the party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
The former governor of Borno State, however, refused to say if he had also met with the President of the Senate, Sen. Bukola Saraki on whether the latter would return to the PDP or not.
Sheriff said the alleged panic in the camp of the ruling party was responsible for the dispute that greeted his appointment.
According to Sheriff, the leadership of the ruling party is aware of his capability to unite the members of the PDP and also bring back those who defected to the APC, hence the controversy.
“We have started reaching out to those who left the PDP and we are discussing already.
“We are getting positive results from them, but we won’t go to the pages of newspapers to announce their names.
“The APC and its leadership are aware that Sheriff has the ability to unite the members of the PDP and also bring back those who have left the party.
“This was why we had the initial controversy on the appointment. But now, we have thrown that behind us as we have resumed work fully,” Bwala said.
According to him, the change in government was God’s own way of allowing Nigerians to compare between the PDP and the ruling party.
Sheriff while commenting on the Supreme Court judgment that affirmed Wike’s mandate said it was a divine intervention as God used the apex court judges to avert crisis.
“We are here because God performed a miracle. Nigeria would have been on fire had the Supreme Court not intervened and the judges stood by the truth,” he said.
His view was re-echoed by the Governor of Ekiti, Ayo Fayose who observed that the Supreme Court cleared the mess left by the present administration and saved Rivers State from desperate politicians.
Fayose described Wike as the man destined to move the state from Egypt to the promised land.
The Ekiti governor commended Wike for his courage in pursuing justice to the end.
Earlier, Founding pastor of Salvation Ministries International, David Ibiyeomie charged politicians to learn how to be statesmen by putting the interest of the masses ahead of their own.
“ We must love Rivers State and Nigeria as statesmen” Ibiyeomie said “ not as politicians who love their country above their interest.”
Pastor Ibiyeomie remarked that the party has demonstrated gratitude to God through thanksgiving and prayed for peace and more blessings in the state.
Governor Wike in his remarks said, “ We can’t thank God enough for those who knew what we passed through we will continue to thank God every minute of the day.
“ If God did not come down it would have not have been possible. For Rivers State God came down,” the governor sated.
Governor Wike while calling on the opposition to join hands to move the state forward, decried the ploy to destabilise the state through violence and urged security agencies to be alive to their duties not to be used by desperate politicians to cause mayhem.
