TUC Tasks Tricycle Owners On Quality Services
The President, Trade
Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Mr Bobboi Kaigama, has advised the members of the newly registered Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), to ensure high standard and professionalism in their operations.
Kaigama gave the advice in his address at the inaugural national meeting of TOAN in Abuja.
“Our members have respect for the law of this country; we will ensure that our members operate within the ambit of law.
“We also encourage absolute respect for rules and regulations and that is what we want from this association.
“The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria which you are now affiliated to, is a very responsible and respected association.
“ We know that the era of table banging is over; you now have to use your brain to marshal your point and sell the idea of the protection of your workers.’’
Kaigama urged members of the association to always embrace social dialogue in promoting the issue of welfare and the effective operations of their members.
The TUC President said that he was confident in the ability of the Augustine Apeh-led executive.
Kaigama gave assurance that the association, as the newest affiliate, would enjoy maximum protection from the congress.
In his remarks, Mr Musa Aliyu, the Chairman, Abuja chapter of TUC, tasked TOAN members to put the interest of the association above individual interest in the election of their executive members.
“You must defend your registration and guard it jealously; let your election be a family affair. If you do not get a position in the union, wait for another time.
“Do away with ‘I must get it’ attitude and support whoever the members of the association elect,”. Aliyu said.
Earlier, Apeh, commended the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment for finding the association worthy of registration.
Apeh, who is the first National President of TAON, pledged the association’s commitment to the promotion of unity, peace, equity and justice.
He further pledged to ensure that the association worked on the welfare of members so as to reduce poverty from its fold.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that TAON received its certificate of registration from the Registrar of Trade Unions in the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, on Jan. 26, 2016.
