Group Hails 65% Empowerment Package For Women
A woman group, the An
gelic Ladies Association of Port Harcourt, has lauded the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike’s, plan of giving 65 per cent of micro finance empowerment to women in the state.
President of the association, Mrs Love Akpabio, in an interview yesterday with The Tide in Port Harcourt, said the initiative has defined the importance the present administration attaches on women.
According to Akpabio, “empowerment to women is the foundation of all human empowerment since what gets to the women would reflect on virtually all segments of the society.
“We are delighted over the initiative and grateful to the governor for taking this decision at this early stage of his administration. It shows that so much good things would come to women in Governor Wike’s administration.
The women who described the emergence of Wike as governor of the state as devine promised to support the present administration in its effort to develop the state.
Akpabio further appealed for judicious distribution of the empowerment initiative so that it would get to the right place, and urged Governor Wike to take all needed steps towards ensuring that the women empowerment will not be politicized for the interest of the average women in the state.
The group also commended the governor for the massive rehabilitation of roads across Diobu in Port Harcourt saying the good road network in the area has improved socio-economic development and security the area.
The association regretted that within the past years, over 60 per cent of roads in Diobu were abandoned and noted that the people suffered avoidable hardship.
