Alamieyeseigha’s Burial Rites Begin, March 24
The burial ceremony of the first civilian Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyesigha has been slated to kick off on March 24, this year.
A statement from the Traditional Ruler of Amassoma kingdom and the first cousin of former Bayelsa State Governor, Major Graham Naingba (rtd), gave this indication reacting to the rumour that the former governor had faked his death.
Naingba, said Alamieyeseigha didn’t fake his death, and added that the funeral of the former governor, who died last October, is scheduled for March 24th, and will continue till March 26th, 2016.
The monarch who is from Alamieyeseigha’s village, said the deceased would have been buried on November 16, last year, the day he would have marked his 63 birthday but it was put off because of preparations for the state governorship election and lack of agreement between the state government and the deceased’s family.
He said although the chiefs in his community are yet to see his corpse, the former governor’s death is true.
“Alamieyeseigha is truly dead. I have heard people who claim that he faked his death. It is not true. In Ogboin community, we don’t fake our death. If anybody claims that he is dead and he eventually comes back, the person cannot live for more than three months.
“It is our tradition. If you fake your death, you are gone because you cannot live again. Even if the whole world says he is not dead, I the traditional ruler of this community will tell you that he is dead,”ýhe said
