Skypower Airline Begins Flight Operations, Next Week
Skypower Express Airline
Ltd., an indigenous airline company, announced on Monday that it would commence flight services from Nigeria to Chad Republic from next week.
Alhaji Faruk Jubrin, the General Manager of the airline, who disclosed this at a news conference in Maiduguri, capital of Borno, said the airline would be operating three flights every week. Jubrin said that this would offer more business opportunities between both countries.
“Nigeria and Chad have been long trading partners dating back to the trans-Sahara trade era but lately the problem of insecurity affected the volume of this trade,’’ he said. Jubrin added that the flights would revive the trade link between the two countries and boost economic activities.
“We have businessmen who travel regularly from Maiduguri to Chad for business. “But the closure of the highway linking the countries following Boko Haram insurgency has prevented the people from travelling,’’ he said. Jubrin expressed optimism that the service would revamp the economies of both countries, as well as restore cultural links between them. He said the airline had obtained its Air Operating Certificate (AOC) and licence to operate since 2011 but it had to delay the commencement of operations due to the insurgency. “We got the authorities approval to start the flight in 2011, but we could not commence operation due to increased Boko Haram insurgency,’’ Jubrin said.
