Amaechi Harps On Exemplary Leadership
Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has challenged prominent Kalabari sons and daughters to leave worthy legacies for their younger generation.
Governor Amaechi, who spoke at the 80th Birthday Thanksgiving Service in honour of High Chief O. B. Lulu-Briggs in Port Harcourt, enjoined leaders of Kalabari Kingdom to persuade their younger generations to drop arms and go to school, to enhance their future.
The Governor, who remarked that most of the younger generation of the Kalabari people are not in schools, said he would be satisfied to see a well educated Kalabari youth who would step into the shoes of the aging icons like Lulu Briggs, Karibi Whyte, Alabo Graham Douglas, among others.
Governor Amaechi congratulated High Chief Lulu-Briggs for turning 80th years, and attributed it to the glory of God, emphasising that the age of 80th was a special one especially since the life expectancy age within the state was less than 80years.
He added that the huge investment of the state in the Health sector was to provide health facilities closer and affordable to Rivers people, which would ultimately improve our life expectancy profile.
Governor Amaechi, who read the first lesson at the Thanksgiving Service, also promised to take the challenge of constructing the Trans Kalabari road, which has been stalled for some years now.
Earlier in his sermon, Apostle Michael Onwuka, in a message titled “The Great Encounter with Light”, said when men encounter the light of God their lives become transformed with the true light which is Jesus Christ.
Apostle Onwuka noted that not all lights are true light, but that which Jesus Christ gives to men, hence those who ascend to the top through ungodly means never sustain such positions.
He therefore enjoined Christians to emulate the life of High Chief O. B. Lulu Briggs, while urging the celebrant to spread his philanthropy to other parts of Rivers State.
The Church Service attracted prominent citizens from all walks of life, among whom were the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry, the Obong of Calabar, His Eminence Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi, present and past political leaders.
, as well members of the organised private sector.
