Radio Station Institutes Walk-For-Life Exercise

Nigeria’s U-17 Women National Team’s striker, Onyedikachi Aku, coasting home during her side’s first leg, first round match of the qualifying series for Jordan 2016 FIFA U-17 Women World Cup against the Baby Gladiators of Namibia, at the National Stadium in Abuja on Saturday. Port Harcourt based radio station, Waves FM 91.7 has introduced a fitness exercise tagged “Walk For Life” for staff and fans of the station.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the event on Saturday, in Port Harcourt, the General manager of the radio house, Ify Onyegbule said the purpose is to ensure that every staff is mentally and physically fit to carry out their duties effectively and efficiently.
According to her, apart from ensuring fitness it is another plat form Foster unity, build friedship as well as an avenue for people to meet themselves. She noted that sometimes, one may not get what he wants when exercising alone.
“I am a health conscious person, I believe that during exercise will keep owe fit at all times to do his or her job very well.
I have worked with radio and television stations, I usually introduce unique things.
Sometimes when you do it yourself you may not really get what you want”, Onyegbule said.
The General Manager further disclosed that the station is poised to hold the event quarterly, saying that the second edition is scheduled to hold First Week of April this year.
Also speaking, Genevieve Okoro, a fan of the station, expressed joy over the good initiative of the station, saying that the exercise actually made her feel great and light.
Okoro, who is also a caterer and decorator said this is the first time radio station has organize such event for her fans and staff.
“Honestly, I fell great and wonderful. It has been long I do such exercise, I wish, I can do it again”, Okoro said.
Kingsley Ihuwuna, a fan who also participated in the exercise commended the Wave FM for given him such a wonderful opportunity to make new friends.
He used the forum to call on the management to continue the exercise, basically for fitness.

PH To Host 2026 NWFL Super Six
In a statement released by the league, the competition is scheduled to take place from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 14, 2026, with six clubs set to battle for the league title at the end of the 2025/26 season.
NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, said the choice of Port Harcourt reflects the Rivers State Government’s continued support for women’s football and its successful hosting of the league’s Annual General Assembly last year.
The Super Six tournament will feature the top three teams from Group A and Group B of the regular season competing in a round-robin format, with each club playing five matches over nine days.
Qualified teams for the competition include defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and debutants Abia Angels.
The NWFL Premiership has produced four different winners in the last five editions, with Rivers Angels winning in 2021, Bayelsa Queens claiming the title in 2022 and 2025, Delta Queens triumphing in 2023, and Edo Queens emerging champions in 2024.
The league also urged participating clubs to comply with all competition regulations and directives ahead of the championship. The Super Six will determine Nigeria’s representative for the WAFU-B qualifiers for a place at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League and ultimately the 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.
Teams are expected to arrive on Friday, June 5, when the draw ceremony and pre-match meeting will also take place. Matchdays are scheduled for June 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14, with rest days in between before the tournament concludes with the trophy presentation ceremony.
