Stakeholder Cautions Motorists On Hazy Weather
As the harmathan
weather sets in, motorists have again been enjoined to be cautious while driving during the Christmas and New Year seasons in Rivers State.
They have also been told to resist any attempt to over-speed and over-load their vehicles while behind the steering.
A stakeholder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tokoni Motors and Transport Services, Port Harcourt, Sir Elvis Tokoni, made the call in a chat with The Tide on Monday.
Tokoni, who operates a fleet of vehicles as commercial transporter said for safety of lives and property of passengers, drivers should be very careful while driving, and shun the temptation of making extra money from their many trips per day.
According to him, the hazy weather could also affect visibility of drivers, stressing that they should also be mindful of over-speeding in order to avoid road crashes.
He said that most accidents during the hazy harmathan period are due to lack of visibility as well as over-speeding, and noted that with caution, road crash rate within the yuletide season would be reduced to the barest minimum this year.
The stakeholder stressed the need for drivers to also ensure that their vehicles are in perfect condition and road worthy, with their side mirrors, headlights, tyres, brake system and other accessories in good condition to avoid officers and men of the Nigeria Police, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO’s) from embarrassing them on the road.
The Chief Executive Officer however called for a mutual understanding between the motoring public and the road law enforcement officers in order to have a happy motoring system and safe journey on the roads.
