FRSC Takes Safety Advocacy To Hotels
The Edo Sector Command, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has attributed the delay in evacuation of crashed trucks from accident scenes in the state to lack of logistics.
The Sector Commander, Mr Familoni Oluwasusi, gave the explanation during an advocacy visit to members of the hoteliers association in Benin recently.
He said that the command was still alive to its statutory duties of prevention and rescue of accident victims within record times.
He lamented that the lack of effective logistics had continued to be the bane of the command’s easy evacuation of crashed vehicles from accident scenes.
According to him, the FRSC has never and will never abdicate its statutory responsibilities as Officers, Marshals and Special Marshals are regular on patrol ensuring safer roads.
“Of course, the only challenge now is that we lack heavy duty tow truck to easily evacuate crashed heavy duty trucks from accident scenes.
“We lost the only one donated by the World Bank worth N110 million to fire when a reckless tanker driver crashed into a rescue operation at the Ovia river early this year,’’ he said.
The commander therefore, appealed to road users to be safety conscious at all times to reduce incidences of crashes on our roads.
He noted that accident cases were attributable to unforeseen circumstances after even taking precautionary measures, and said that “crashes are results of preventable human errors on the roads.
“The command is therefore taking necessary steps to collaborate with stakeholders like your associations in its determined efforts at reducing road crashes to the barest minimum,’’ he said.
The advocacy visit witnessed the presentation of colourfully designed fliers with safety tips to the hotel owners to place in rooms and strategic places in their premises for their guests.
