Jonathan’s Visit NOA Hails Rivers People
The huge public turn-out and reception displayed by the citizenry during the visit of President Goodluck Jonathan has been described as unprecedented.
The commendation was made by the state Director of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Chief Andy Nweye in a chat with reporters shortly after the civic reception of President Jonathan in Port Harcourt, Friday.
Chief Nweye said he was overwhelmed by the crowd and public display of joy and excitement, stressing that it shows the enormous goodwill the new president enjoys at home.
In his words, “It was natural for people to come out because here is a son of the soil and also an in-law and so everybody wanted to see him.”
He believed that the home support and goodwill the Niger Delta people have displayed is crucial for the president at this early stage of his administration, as it would afford him the ability to have a sense of belonging.
Chief, Nweye also commended the president for showing early signs of being able to lead the country, stating that most of the decisions he has taken so far have helped to stabilise the country.
The NOA boss said the presidential visit has also afforded Dr Jonathan the opportunity to confer with his people considering the number of notable sons and daughters who showed up at the reception.
It would be recalled that about eight governors and their deputies showed up at the public event, including ministers and top politicians across the country.
About 30 different cultural troups were at hand at the reception displaying the rich and diverse culture and dances of the people in the region. Chairman of the Presidential Visit Organising Committee and Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor, Chief Onyesom Wike in his address said the reception shows how the people cherish the new president.
Chief Wike described the visit as historical as it underscores the special relationship the state has with the nation’s leader as an in-law and son.
