Football Promoters Not Happy With Lagerback’s List 2010 World Cup
A grassroots football promoter in Rivers State, Hon Victor Amadi, has expressed dismay over the non-inclusion of many young players in the 30-man list released by ,Lars Lagerback recently ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Hon Amadi made this known in an interview with Tidesports, recently.
According to him, “the list was a repeat of Coach Shuaibu Amodu’s squad that failed Nigeria at the last Nation’s Cup in Angola. He said he was looking forward to seeing Lagerback unveiling different names made up of young players as that of Blacks Stars of Ghana, rather than recycling the old names that have past their prime.
He expressed fears that Eagles may have very bleak chances against Argentina in the first world Cup game, noting that the team has failed to play one friendly match up till now, which would have helped to assess the players’ current state of fitness.
“Besides, Eagles do not boast of very reliable mid fielder, which has been the greatest asset of a typical African team and yet we are thinking of containing one of the best compact teams (Argentina) in the world today,” he said.
Amadi continued that, he foresaw doom looming in the camp of the Eagles, perhaps as the first team to leave South Africa after the likes of Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez and others dismantle Nigeria in the group’s opening match.
“I have not seen any Nigerian defender among the 30-man list recently released by Lagerback that can hold Messi when he is in his elements.”
