The Nigerian Cassava
Growers Association, Delta State chapter, is to partner the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) to build capacity for operators of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the state.
Its Chairman, Mr Justus Kachikwu, disclosed this to newsmen in an interview in Asaba.
He said that the association would organise members who were genuinely interested in such enterprises to participate in a workshop that would greatly impact on their businesses.
Kachikwu said that the target groups were cooperative societies, businessmen and women, as well as the unemployed youth who had learnt some trades but needed some kind of support to effectively take off.
The chairman said that the programme would help such groups to sharpen their entrepreneurial skills and expose them to sources of financing.
According to him, the participants would be exposed to various entrepreneurial techniques and business ethics.
“Those in processing would be exposed to ways of sourcing finances from the Bank of Industry and the National Economic Reconstruction Fund,” he said.
Kachikwu said that participants at the workshop would be drawn from operators of small and medium enterprises in agriculture, food processing, trading and services.
He said that the planned training was in line with the State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa’s prosperity agenda, aimed at making SMEs viable and effective in wealth creation for the people of the state.
Kachikwu, therefore, called on the relevant agencies of the state government to support the programme, to make it a success.
