L-R: Senator Felix Bajomo (Ogun West), Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Idiat Adebule, Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II and President, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Mr Olufemi Deru, at an ICAN symposium on 2015 Federal Government’s Budget in Lagos on Thursday
The chieftaincy institution in Rivers State has been charged to provide positive leadership and responsible direction to the people.
Chairman, Okrika Divisional Council of Chiefs (ODCC), Chief Nemi Wisdom Adoki, who made the call at the installation/admission of Chief (Air Commodore) Tamuno-Omisike Opuiyo Ogube (rtd.) as Perekune Kingoli 1, in Okrika, last Saturday, said as custodians of the people’s culture and tradition, chiefs must live above board.
He urged the traditional rulers to complement government efforts in fighting anti-social activities like kidnapping, robbery and cultism by embracing community policing and keeping a close watch on their subjects.
“The chief must endeavour to know all members of his war canoe house and ascertain their source of livelihood, with a view to checking criminal activities”, Adoki said.
The ODCC Chairman described Chief Ogube as an illustrious son of Okrika, whose rare accomplishments as a philanthropist, bridge builder, social engineer and devout Christian stand-out as enviable character traits, a successful chief must imbibe, and advised him not to relent in his service to God and humanity.
Until his retirement June 15, this year, Air Commodore Opuiyo-Ogube was the Director of Finance, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji in Kaduna State, after serving his nation for 31 years in the Nigerian Air Force.
The Ogube War Canoe House (Omu-aru) was created out of the Old Kingoli Omu-aru, with the Air Commodore as Chief Perekune 1.
