Apapa APM Terminals Gets Deputy MD
The management of
APM Terminals, Apapa, has appointed Mr Olufemi Ransome-Kuti as the Deputy Managing Director of the company.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos by Mr Onajite Olusakin, communications coordinator, APM Terminals, Apapa.
The statement said the new deputy managing director would bring to his new role his 14 years experience in supply-chain operations and project management.
“Before joining APM Terminals, he (Ransome-Kuti) worked with Lafarge WAPCO where he served as the General Manager, Logistics and Procurement, and also worked with Nestle Central and West Africa Region (CWAR) Supply Chain Division.
“Mr Ransome-Kuti has a proven record in corporate management, formulation and implementation of effective strategies, providing measurable business improvements and contributing greatly to company success”, it said.
The statement described the maritime industry as a major revenue earner, and that the port served as the gateway to the nation’s economy.
It stated that APM Terminals was a key player and a major employer of labour with over 1,000 Nigerians working at the facility.
“I am pleased to be part of this company and look forward to an exciting career ahead,’’ Ransome- Kuti said.
The Tide source reports that APM Terminals, Apapa is the largest container facility by capacity in Nigeria, with a container throughput of 700,000 TEUs in 2014.
The terminal is one of the busiest container terminals in West Africa, handling nearly 90 per cent of Nigeria’s inbound containers.
The owners of the terminal have invested 350 million dollars (N80.5 billion) on expansion programme since 2006 and this had resulted to increase in container volumes and productivity.
Since August 2013, there had been regular rail services, moving containers three times a week from the port to Kano in the Northern part of the country.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
