Meanwhile, Commander Kumapayi has read a riot act to management staff of the Command and the motoring public in Rivers State saying that his major goals in the state as sector commander would be to work assiduously with relevant stakeholders in road transport management in decongesting the chaotic traffic situation in Port Harcourt and its environs.
He promised to ensure enforcement of the speed limit device by fleet operators and commercial vehicle owners with effect from September 1, 2015 in line with the plans of the corps.
He said that aggressive public enlightenment and stakeholders consultation would be carried out in order to dissociate the motoring public from patronizing touts in the issuance of drivers licence, adding that he would collaborate with other relevant security agencies in ensuring sanity as well as eradicate racketeering and touting of fake drivers lience.
Kumapayi assured to work in concert with all stakeholders to ensure that all roads are made safer with the strict enforcement of vehicle safety standards as provided for in the Road Transport Safety standardization scheme (RTSSS) on all vehicles operating on the nation’s highway, including tankers and haulage vehicles.
The new sector commander however called on all road users to co-operate with the corps by obeying traffic rules and regulations so as to guarantee the safety of lives and property at all times in the state.
